Lesson Plans
This section is designed to provide tangible examples for teachers who are interested in putting the above technological tools to practical use in the classroom. While very few teachers may have the opportunity to implement these exact lessons into their own classroom, reading through these lessons and seeing how easy it is to integrate virtual field trips into the classroom will encourage teachers to use the described tools in their own curriculum. The following lessons cover six content areas including: social studies, language arts, science, math, art, and language learning. Each content area is then broken down into two lessons, one for upper grades (for the United States this is typically grades kindergarten through second grade or about 5 to 8 years old) and lower grades (for the United States this is typically third grade through fifth grade or about 9 to 12 years old).
Then, each lesson for both upper and lower grades is broken down into individual or small group instruction and whole group instruction. The individual or small group instruction is to be used in a computer lab or with student computers available in the classroom. The whole group instruction is to be used in the regular classroom setting with all students in attendance and will usually include the videoconferencing aspect of the virtual field trip. At the beginning of each content area there is a table displaying the types of technological devices that will be necessary for each lesson.
The below table displays the types of technological devices that will be necessary for each lesson and is broken down into the four different types of lessons: lower grade individual instruction, lower grade whole group instruction, upper grade individual instruction, and upper grade whole group instruction.
